These beautiful wooden birds of Australia (designed and handcrafted by Charles Smith; Dinkum Birds of Australia) were once sold in upmarket department stores and displayed in many of the best galleries and zoos in Australia and overseas.

Charles trained as an industrial designer specialising in furniture design. He worked and studied in Germany and Scandinavia in the 60's before starting his own furniture factory, which he has now sold. Charles then devoted himself to his lifelong passion for birds.

His mission in life is to help make Australians aware of their most fantastic and precious heritage - more than 800 species of birds.
His handcrafted birds are now to be found in collections as far afield as Tokyo, London, New York, Stockholm, and Los Angeles just to mention a few. Each handpainted bird is hand crafted of wood (plantation hoop pine) in sections that fit together perfectly - Colour and superb form of proportions, makes it a rare item to treasure.
