Total of three species of monkeys are found in Sri Lanka. Langurs represented by two species namely Tufted gray langur and Purple-faced leaf monkey and one macaque species namely Toque macaque. Purple-faced leaf monkey and Toque macaque is endemic to the island while gray langur can be found in India too. The toque macaque (Macaca sinica) is a reddish-brown-coloured old world monkey endemic to Sri Lanka, where it is known as the rilewa or rilawa. Its name refers to the whorl of hair at the crown of the head, reminiscent of a brimless toque cap.
