About the Artist – Giulio Rosati (1861–1917) born in Rome into a family of bankers and military officers, Giulio Rosati instead pursued a life in art, studying at the Accademia di San Luca under Dario Querci and Francesco Podesti. He later refined his style under Luis Álvarez y Catalá, director of the Prado Museum in Madrid.

Rosati became one of the most prolific Orientalist painters of the 19th century, working primarily in watercolour and occasionally in oil. Although he never travelled to the Middle East, he dedicated his career to portraying scenes of the Maghreb and broader Orientalist themes, admired for their precision, warmth, and narrative depth. His work Oriental Scene was exhibited at the Exposition di Belle Arte in Rome in 1900.

His artistic legacy continued through his son, Alberto Rosati (1893–1971), also an Orientalist painter.
